Minority Finance Commission
Overview
The Minority Finance Commission is an ad hoc undergraduate funding committee of the Office of Minority Educational Affairs. The Commission is responsible for supplementing funds to registered undergraduate minority student organizations that operate on the Cornell campus.
The funds allocated by the Commission are limited each year, so it is not possible for every campus group to receive full funding from MFC. MFC should not be your organization’s primary funding source. Campus groups should first seek outside revenue, through fund raising activities , other finance commissions, co-sponsorship with other organizations, or co-sponsorship boards, i.e. SAFC, ALANA, Dean of Students, ISPB, etc.
Registering Your Organization
The student organization must first be registered with the university. Go to the Student Activities Office then click on “Register Organization” to ensure that your organization registration status is completed before taking any other steps. After registering with the university you must register your organization with the Office of Minority Educational Affairs in order to be eligible for funding from MFC. Click Here to be redirected to our Minority Student Organization Registration Form.
Your organization must have a full-time Cornell University faculty, staff or graduate advisor. Advisor information must be given to us for verification.
An organization must update their new officers’ information with the OMEA. As soon as elections are held, it is the president’s or business manager’s responsibility to update the OMEA with this information. Failure to do so will result in your organization missing pertinent information as well as jeapordizing possible funding in the future.
How to Apply for Funding
To apply for funding, download the application form fill it out then print three copies and submit them to the Office of Minority Educational Affairs at 100 Barnes Hall. Attached, if relevant to the specific event, must be room and speaker confirmations, any supporting documents, as well as any information that is not explicitly requested on this application but is nonetheless relevant. Please contact OMEA staff for more information.
